The Ruby Wide 14-24mm lens was created by Focus Optics by rehousing the Nikkor 14-24mm super wide zoom from Nikon into a cine-friendly form factor. The superb optical performance of the original Nikon glass is maintained, including an incredible sharpness corner-to-corner, especially at the wide end. Also, the focus direction has been reversed to go in the traditional cine direction and the focus travel has been expanded to 126 degrees. Focus Optics’ antibacklash design ensures complete accuracy of focus marks.
The Ruby performs remarkably well on any PL mount camera. And at 14mm, it is the widest cine-style lens that covers the Full Frame sensor on the Canon 5D Mk II and 1D Mk IV without vignetting. To achieve this, the lens comes with two interchangeable front shrouds, both threaded for easy swapping on the fly. One shroud has traditional still lens cutouts, while the other is a solid ring that can accept a clamp-on mattebox or a 102mm screw-in filter. ![]() Ruby Zoom footage from E3D Creative, including HDR tests with RED cameras on their 3D rig ![]() Footage shot in Harlan, Kentucky with the Focus Optics Ruby 14-24mm T2.8 Wide Short Zoom.
