This year Band Pro hosted a comprehensive Filmmaker’s Forum featuring top cinematographers from around the world. Some amazing footage was shared and technical insights were passed along to our many NAB guests.
DP James Neihouse (IMAX Space Station 3D, Imax Hubble 3D) discussed 'A Perfect Planet', the new IMAX 4K documentary currently being shot with Canon C500s on the International Space Station;
World renowned underwater cinematographer Bob Cranston (To the Artic, Arabia, Deep Sea 3D) detailed IMAX and digital capture in a variety of underwater environments;
Former SOC President, Steadicam legend, and DP Dan Kneece (The Patriot, Jackie Brown, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart) took us behind the scenes of many iconic shots, and discussed making the transition from camera operator to DP. Dan recently wrapped a new feature shot in New Orleans on the Canon C500.
Cinematographer and Former ASC President, Daryn Okada (Mean Girls, American Reunion, Let's Be Cops) discussed shooting Sony F55 for feature films.
Sony Senior Vice President, Bill Baggelaar covered one of today’s hottest topics: the benefits of utilizing High Dynamic Range (HDR) for both broadcast and cinematic projects.
Band Pro Senior Technical Consultant and DP Randy Wedick (VARMINT, Viewing the Night Sky in Summer, Of Rushing Nowhere) took us behind the scenes of his latest 4K project shot at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery with the Sony FS7 and Leica Summicron-C glass.
Cinematographer, Philippe Ros, AFC, presented his research on the texture of the 4K image using Sony’s F65 & F55 cameras combined with Leica Summilux-C and Summicron-C cine lenses.
Band Pro President and CEO, Amnon Band noted: “As we all know, NAB is very gear-oriented. What’s the new camera? What’s the new lens? While it’s interesting to see the new technology, we should never lose sight of the people behind the tools. Our Filmmaker’s Forum was created for just that reason.”
This year Band Pro also co-hosted the annual ICG party on Monday April 13th in Band Pro’s booth. Special thanks to MaryAnne MacDougall and Teresa Munoz for helping us kick off a great evening!
And, as always, Band Pro's NAB booth also featured the latest tech innovations in broadcast and cinema acquisition.
This year we were joined by Italian broadcast crane innovator Tecnopoint (showcasing their latest design: EXCALIBUR), robotic camera experts RoboVision, Baselight DIT expert Bobby Maruvada, Barcelona-based OVIDE, the latest from CW Sonderoptic including the entire Leica Summilux-C and Summicron-C lens lines, 16x9, Inc., Movcam, Semote, ORCA Bags, and many more.
If you couldn't make it, here's a few photos so you can see what you missed.
