Cine Gear 2013

As always, Band Pro featured many new production innovations - here's a review of some products we showcased in our booth this year:

		The new Vortex Ultra Zoom system by PsiTech is currently used by Fox Sports for their 4K "Super Zoom" NFL coverage. The Vortex utilizes the full resolution of the Sony F65 (nine times that of the telecast’s 720p frame) to allow the operator to zoom in to 1/9th of the frame during replay and still supply crisp, in-focus video.
		The affordable, intelligently designed Movcam Cage system-comprised of a Top Plate, Top Handle Kit, Side Handles, LWS Base Plate, Shoulder Pad, LWS Dovetail Plate and EVF Mount-ergonomically envelopes the F5 or F55 (they have the same form factor) in a rigid framework of mounting options, a veritable Swiss cheese of 114" and 3/8" threaded holes.
		Ovide introduces Smart Assist, a system developed based on QTAKE HD software. Ovide has developed a compact self-contained system in a 22" touchscreeen. Before this, QTAKE HD needed bulky computers, capture cards, monitors, and was AC powered. Ovide has developed smart Assist hardware that reduces the size to a 22" monitor. Everything needed is inside.
		Odyssey7 supports “Single Stream” video monitoring, and with extra cost options supports recording of a “Single Stream” of video. The more advanced Odyssey7Q, supports monitoring of up to four video streams, or one 4K Video Signal (via four HD-SDI inputs, the industry standard), and with extra cost options, supports recording up to four video streams simultaneously. Also, the Odyssey7Q supports recording of Raw + Proxy at the same time.
		Sony 4K sensor for gorgeous, super-sampled HD, 2K and 4K The PMW-F55 CineAlta camera shoots spectacular images with its 8.9 megapixels (effective) Sony 4K image sensor. You get superb dynamic range, the widest colour gamut, and pristine image quality, whether you shoot in HD, 2K or 4K.
		Designed by a Hollywood cinematographer to overcome the drawbacks of bulky, power-consuming traditional soft-lights and the technical shortcomin gs of blotchy first-generation LEDs, Fill-Lite introduces a compact, flexible solution that meets professional quality standards in temperature, color and precision control.
		Canon has made their mark on the digital cinema world.  The Canon Cine Prime and Cine Zoom lenses have quickly become industry favorites, along with their entire line of EOS cameras including the C500, C300, C100 and the 1D-C.  Come try out Canon's expansive range of recording and output options designed for 4K and 2K image acquisition.
		Solid Grip Systems (SGS) manufactures aluminum precision tracks for both the film and television industries. SGS also manufactures the Truss-Dolly-System along with all of its accompanying accessories. These precision track profiles are not adapted from the printing or manufacturing industry, but were specifically designed for the weight of film equipment.
		Fujnon is introducting the third member of their lightweight Cabrio PL-mount zoom lens family. The new Wide Angle Cabrio will be part of Fujinon's Premier line, and is called Cabrio-as in cabriolet-convertible. The convertible part is the quickly removable zoom handgrip. Similar to ENG/EFP servo drives, it has built-in lens motors for focus, iris, and zoom. A rocker controls the zoom.
		Your perfect monitoring companion for professional video applications, this new monitor from LEADER features a bright 7” built-in LCD display with IPS LED backlit panel. The screen contents, including waveform, vector, CineZone (false color) and markers can be output via HDMI to a larger monitor. Easy to use controls with settable quick function buttons nicely complement the comprehensive display and menus.
		True ND offers the pinnacle of filter excellence, providing accurate transmittance and true neutrality.  Available sizes: 4x5.65 / 6.6x6.6; Available densities: 0.3 / 0.6 / 0.9 / 1.2 / 1.5. These premium filters ensure no color shift and no IR pollution.  Nothing else comes close to True ND.
		The world's first next generation tripod; Cineped consists of a rotational camera slider supported by 4 legs.  This solution allows even distribution of all download forces when the camera moves, resulting in the most stable and reliable support available in the industry today.
		CW Sonderoptic, makers of the Leica Summilux-C, are introducing their new series of prime lenses: Summicron.  Summicron lenses provide a lower cost alternative to the Leica Summilux-C primes while still maintaining some of the more pleasing attributes that Leica has become known for. This new entry has been designed as a PL mount, with a T2.0-22 aperture, close focus from 1’ to 3”4”, with a focal length of 101mm and a front flange of 4.0”.
