The Angénieux Optimo Prime Series includes unique creative possibilities for cinematographers, based on a new technology by Angénieux called Integrated Optical Palette (IOP). The IOP technology, just like the IRO technology for the zooms, is the culmination of Angenieux’s well-known innovation capabilities.
Full frame Angenieux Optimo Primes stand alone among professional cinema glass as the only lenses designed to incorporate Integrated Optical Palette (IOP) technology. This new revolutionary lens design allows cinematographers to craft their own unique looks by combining IOP options as a painter adds hues to a brush. Optimo Primes IOP are comprised of Internal Filters, Iris Cartridges, and Rear Filter options. Combining one or more of these dramatically changes the overall look, while allowing the DP to be in complete creative control. Due to their unique position inside the lens, IOP Internal Filters craft new looks not possible with front or rear filtration alone. Equally unique is that this process is easily reversible, returning the lens to its original configuration within minutes.
Official Stage 1 IOP Options include: Internal Elements: Clear (Coated & Uncoated), Glimmerglass (1/4 & 1/8), Black Satin, Black Pro Mist, Low Contrast, . Iris Cartridge Options include 3-Blade and Oval (coming soon). Rear Filtration options will include key looks from Tiffen to provide an ever-expanding palette. Customized looks are available upon request. Band Pro will continue gathering client input to help select future IOP releases.
Integrated Optical Palettes (IOP) are now available to rent at Camera One.

"I recently shot Angenieux Optimo Primes with IOP on Daisy Jones and the Six for Amazon. For this particular job I tested full frame lenses from 7 different manufacturers. We we're trying to achieve a specific look that was pristine, beautiful, and that would envelope the characters. From these tests we fell in love with Optimo Primes. They are beautifully crafted like all Angenieux lenses. The focus fall off and bokeh are unique.
We decided to use a Tiffen 1/8 Glimmer Glass internal IOP. With this, it was like seeing the light through a glass of champagne. For some scenes we added netting in the back of the lens in lieu of rear filtration. This created a timeless glow in the highlights.
I will be using the lenses again on an upcoming NBC pilot shooting later this month."

The palette includes customizable lens elements, including:
- Interchangeable iris: 3, 9 iris blade (9 as standard)
- Internal glass elements: diffusion/vintage, flare, anamorphic-like streaks/blue reflection
- Screw-in Rear filter: custom design rear filter with 40.5mm (S35) & 46mm (FF) thread
IOP / Interchangeable Iris:
3-Blade Iris
A triangular 3-bladed iris provides a strong bokeh. The desired effect is a perfect equilateral triangle. This iris will generate a particular effect on the bokeh and particularly on the highlights. The bokeh will take the shape of the lens pupil which appears in the highlights. The triangular effect appears only from T2.8. At T1.8 full aperture, the bokeh remains perfectly standard, a round one.
Three blade irises were used traditionally on some lenses in the 60s, to give a very unique look to the image and bring new creativity to the cinematographer. This IOP element will be perfect to generate a certain atmosphere in a commercial or a feature film.
To be noted that for this iris, three types of subassemblies are proposed to cover the whole Optimo Prime range of lenses.
IOP / Internal Glass Element
The Internal Glass IOP element, which replaces the element that was originally installed on the lens, can be used as a support to express your full creativity. It is made for a free access to custom effects.
Internal Element Options:
- Black Pro-Mist 1/8
- Black Satin 1/8
- Clear Coated
- Clear Uncoated
- Low Con 1/8
- Glimmerglass 1/4
- Glimmerglass 1/8
IOP / Screw-In Rear Filter
Custom designed rear filter with 40.5mm (S35) & 46mm (FF) thread allows cinematographers to access the full menu of currently available Rear Filter options to further customize and enhance your desired look.
